M3 Extreme Duty Charging Handle
Patent Pending
In line with our goal of producing the finest and most reliable component parts, the Leitner-Wise Defense M3 Extreme Duty charging handle is the result of extensive research into how and why the standard mil-spec handle can fail in use.
Originally designed specifically for our Mod.1 op-rod carbines, the M3 Extreme Duty charging handle is now available as a replacement charging handle compatible with all AR15 type rifles.
The M3 Extreme Duty charging handle is precision machined from solid, Stressproof 1145 steel barstock to meet the tough demands of competition, training and tactical use. Carrying our Limited Lifetime Warranty, the M3 Extreme Duty charging handle is built tougher than mil-spec.
Machined 1145 steel provides the strength to withstand the rigorous demands of high usage. It won’t bend, break or shear during rapid support hand loading and clearance drills, left-hand slap or buttstock stoppage clearing. The M3 Extreme Duty charging handle design and material choice ensures that it will not fail in the traditionally weak areas of the standard part. The greater surface area of the T handle provides more purchase for all requirements, yet is no wider than the mil-spec version reducing the potential of snag hazards and increased wear. Although just over one ounce heavier than a standard charging handle the weight increase is at the rear so it does not affect the balance of the weapon in a negative way. Stressproof 1145 has a tensile strength of 120,000 psi and a yield strength of 90,000 psi far exceeding that of the forged 7075 T6 aluminum version (74,000 psi and 63,000 psi respectively). The M3 Extreme Duty charging handle is strong!
With no additional maintenance other then a recommended light oiling when cleaning the weapon and as hard-coat anodizing has a harder surface, the M3 Extreme Duty charging handle will not accelerate bearing surface wear when used in anodized aluminum receivers.
The M3 Extreme Duty charging handle is available in two versions, one supplied with the standard mil-spec charging handle latch or one supplied with the LMT Tactical Latch. The design allows it to accept all currently available aftermarket latches at the user’s preference.
The 3rd generation design includes beverage escapement functionality.
