MOD.1 Upper Receiver AssemblyBrought to you by the same innovators, designers and OEM operating system manufacturers of the highly successful LWRC M6 and REPR series of weapons (U.S. Patent # 7,461,581) the Leitner–Wise Defense MOD.1 is a variable stroke, direct–gas op–rod, upper receiver assembly compatible with AR15 type lower receivers. The design of the MOD.1 operating system is such that it prevents hot propellant gasses and carbon from entering the receiver assemblies allowing the firearm to operate at cooler temperatures and reduced stresses. The LWD MOD.1 upper receiver is designed to replace the traditional direct gas impingement operated upper receivers commonly supplied with AR15 type lower receiver assemblies. The MOD.1 upper will operate based on the fire control set–up of the lower receiver; i.e. with a semi–automatic lower receiver, the MOD.1 provide semi–automatic fire and with a fully–automatic lower receiver, the MOD.1 offers a select fire capability. Simply attach it to your lower receiver, mount your sights and you are ready to go! The MOD.1 utilizes state–of–the–art materials, surface finishes and patent–pending technologies in its design and construction. Manufactured in–house, the simplified operating system comprises a one–piece operating rod and one–piece forged bolt carrier with all other controls and components being similar or the same as those found on the traditionally operated version. The patent–pending operating system does not rely on the propellant gases produced by the rifle cartridge to act directly upon the bolt in order to cycle the system, rather, that these gases impinge directly on the one–piece operating rod and then are vented at the front of the firearm away from the bolt group, fire control parts and the operator, via directional nozzles. The benefits of this system are that the heat from these gases are not directed into the working parts of the firearm which substantially reduces heat–fatigue induced parts failures. Venting the gases away from the working parts of the firearm reduces the amount of cleaning required and ensures that lubricants last longer. The MOD.1 is also supplied with one of our High Performance Bolts as standard. The MOD.1 can be rapidly field stripped without tools; the quick release, return to zero, free–float UCR™ railed handguard can simply be removed by unlatching its locking lever; the operating system can be stripped by releasing the gas block lock nut and sliding the whole assembly forward without removing the handguard; the one–piece forged bolt carrier group is removed in the traditional manner. All in all, the MOD.1 is an evolutionary approach to addressing the deficiencies of both the AR15 type traditional operating system and the newer piston driven derivatives, offering solutions to the operational and dynamic complexities of both. Repeated testing by both internal and external engineers has confirmed all of the patent pending technologies employed in the MOD.1 and the simplified approach in the design and execution of the MOD.1 has resulted in manufacturing cost savings that are passed directly on to the end user.
